Chelsea defender David Luiz insists that Chelsea have to look ahead after their lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to four points this weekend. The Blues lost 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, meaning Spurs sit only 4 points behind Chelsea at the head of the table.

The Chelsea squad was wracked with illness prior to the defeat at Old Trafford, but Luiz was not looking for excuses, telling the Chelsea website, “We didn’t play well, Manchester United played better than us and they deserved to win.”

Left-wing back Marcos Alonso had to withdraw from the starting line-up due to illness, but Luiz denies that this disrupted their planning, “This kind of thing can happen. He felt a bit sick so that is why we had to change but it didn’t affect the game because Marcos did not play, we lost because we did not play very well and it was not the Chelsea like before and sometimes this happens.”

The Brazilian also suggests that his team have to look ahead to the final seven fixtures and not dwell on the result, “Tottenham are playing very well, but also we are top of the table for a reason and we still have to play a lot of football, so we need to look forward and play the next games.”
