Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho is delighted to be recognised as the top scoring Brazilian in the English top flight. His effort against Stoke on Saturday took him to 30 Premier League goals, surpassing Juninho Paulista’s total for Middlesbrough.
Coutinho, who was nearly ruled out of the visit to Stoke, told the Liverpool website, “I am happy for that. I want to keep going to keep scoring and helping my team and keep learning from my manager.
“They (the club) asked me to stay at home because I was not feeling well but I wanted to be here. I wanted to be involved with the team. The manager decided (to put him on the bench) because I was not 100 per cent.
Coutinho hit the equaliser, before compatriot Roberto Firmino scored the winner two minutes later. But the Brazilian insisted it was a team effort, “No. The team played well, created more chances and then we scored but I think the team played well not just individuals. It was a big win. There are a lot of points to fight for and every game for us is important.”
