Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that he and Brazil manager Tite are kindred spirits tactically. Both coaches benefit from the talents of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino and Klopp says that Tite is trying to implement a similar style to Liverpool.

The Seleção have won 8 consecutive games and have qualified for the World Cup in Russia next year. Klopp insists that Firmino and Coutinho have been coming back from international duty in the highest of spirits.

“Tite obviously likes the way we play – we had a lot contact and I am not 100 per cent sure but I think he wants to do something similar,” said Klopp, “We had a few conversations, not with him personally because we have language issues, but there is a guy in his staff who speaks English and he likes the way we play.

Klopp says Tite’s use of Firmino as a false 9 vindicates his own decision to use him in that role, “I know your thoughts when we started playing Roberto as No 9. Now he is playing for Brazil as a 9 and that is maybe not the worst idea.

“It was good for him and it was especially good for Phil. He scored a wonderful goal. In the second game it looked good, fluent. If you saw the games then Roberto didn’t score, but he opened nearly all the situations. It is unbelievable.

“When I saw them I thought they would actually look tired, but they weren’t. There was a really big smile on their face. From the mental side it was a big thing.”
