Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his star turn Philippe Coutinho was “not the best” against Burnley last Sunday. The Brazilian has struggled for form since returning from an ankle injury in January.

Last weekend, he was subbed on 59 minutes and replaced by youngster Jack Woodburn, with the scores tied at 1-1. Klopp admitted that it was not his best performance, “That’s life for an outstanding football player,” said Klopp.

“The influence of Phil on a game is huge, so if he’s not 100%, you miss something. He did really well against Arsenal. Burnley was not the best. His training week this week has been perfect. He looks well and confident. He’s in a really good way.”

Coutinho is still expected to start for Sunday’s top of the table clash against Manchester City at the Etihad. He will then join up with the Brazil squad for qualifiers against Uruguay in Montevideo and Paraguay in São Paulo.
