Liverpool have been boosted by Roberto Firmino’s return to training. The Brazilian missed Sunday’s 2-1 win over Burnley with a slight muscular problem obtained in the previous weekend’s 3-1 victory against Arsenal, in which he opened the scoring.

Firmino watched on from the sidelines as his teammates laboured to a narrow win over Burnley, who are still yet to win away from home this season. He was replaced by Divock Origi in the starting line-up.

Firmino has played as a false 9 in a fluid front 3 with compatriot Philippe Coutinho and Senegalese wide man Sadio Mane to great effect this season. His return to light training today was a boost ahead of this weekend’s clash with Manchester City.

Whether he will be fit enough to start the game remains to be seen, but with Coutinho out of form and Daniel Sturridge again missing through injury, Firmino’s presence in the starting XI is more desired than ever. He has 10 goals so far this campaign.
