Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho insists that the title race is still not over for his team, despite the 8 point gap to runaway league leaders Chelsea. Conte’s side look like champions elect, but the Brazilian is not giving up without a fight.

“Everyone knows how hard the Premier League is, so eight points are not that relevant,” he explained to the Manchester City website, “We still have to face them at their own stadium which is one of those six-pointer type of game and of course everything is possible in the Premier League.

“Teams can drop points and draw so we will carry on expecting that to happen. Unfortunately, our next game in the Premier League is not until the start of March which seems a long time. But I think it was important to win against Bournemouth and get an extra three points and jump into the second position.”

The 31 year old also had words of encouragement for young compatriot Gabriel Jesus, who fractured his metatarsal in the Bournemouth match, which may well see him miss the rest of the Premier League season.

“He was treading badly with his right foot, but we will see what the doctors will say. We are all hoping it was nothing serious and hopefully he can come back as soon as possible.”
