Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has paid tribute to his teammates for helping him through a difficult time professionally. The Brazilian was sent off twice in quick succession in December, leading to a series of games that he missed through suspension.

Fernandinho has come back into the team in fine fettle as City have moved into 3rd place in the Premier League and qualified for the 5th round of the FA Cup. The player told Manchester City’s official website that he owes a debt of gratitude to his colleagues.

“I am very happy to be back, after a long absence period away from the action,” he said. “I am very happy we won a difficult game against Swansea, but even more important than that was the support I received from my colleagues during this period.

“All that support was essential, in order to return in the best possibly way.” Fernandinho has seen his compatriot Gabriel Jesus take England by storm with three goals in his first three games, which has delighted the 32 year old.

“He has things to learn, but he is starting very well,” he said. “I am very happy that he is progressing well and with confidence. The most important thing is that he is being able to score goals. He adjusted very quickly.

“English football isn’t as easy, so I honestly hope he continues in this level in order to improve even more. I am sure he is a player that will develop a lot more and I am absolutely sure, that he will be a top-class international player.”
