Gabriel Jesus was “ready when he arrived” enthuses Guardiola
Pep Guardiola insists that 19 year old Gabriel Jesus arrived ready, after a quick start to his Manchester City career. The Brazilian has 3 goals and 2 assists in his first 3 games for the club, after joining from Palmeiras in January.
Many expected the youngster to be eased in slowly, but he started ahead of Sergio Aguero in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea City, in which Jesus scored both goals- including a stoppage time winner. “He was ready when he arrived,” enthused Guardiola.
“Jesus made a lot of things with and without the ball, we’re delighted with him with what he has done so far. It has not been easy for Sergio, I decided to stick with the three upfront because they played so well against Palace and West Ham.
“Sergio remains one of the most important players in the squad, he will play with and without Gabriel. There are 19 year olds who are physically strong and some who aren’t. This guy in the box has something special.”
