Brazilian Technical Director Edu Gaspar insists that Gabriel Jesus has the appetite to be a success in Europe. The 19 year old made his debut for Manchester City in a 2-2 draw with Spurs on Sunday and Edu has seen plenty of the young striker up close with the Seleção.

The ex-Arsenal man told Globo, “From the moment we worked with Gabriel, we saw that he is an extremely focused athlete. He is youngster who achieved great status last year, but when he showed up in the Brazilian national team, we could see that he will be a great, great player, at the European level, as is already happening.

“He already has a great competitiveness, which he had already been showing at Palmeiras. And the English league doesn’t allow you not to be a competitive player. But I don’t see Gabriel having much difficulty because he has the characteristics close to the matches of the Premier League.

“He has physical strength, he is competitive, he has all the characteristics. The referees give few fouls, you have to be strong, the matches are very even. Him being in England is good for the Brazilian team too, we have only to gain from it. To compete and stand next to high level athletes gives you an opportunity, so if you are smart, you improve too.”
