Manchester City hope to be able to announce that all of the formal paperwork for the signing of Gabriel Jesús has gone through today. The Brazilian has yet to feature for his new club, having not yet received clearance from his old club Palmeiras.

He began training with City in early January. The Football Association is nearing completion of its due diligence process regarding the Brazilian and it now seems likely he will be available for Saturday’s visit of Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium.

The 19 year old is unlikely to start the game, with Sergio Aguero available and having yet to feature for his new club. Jesús endured a long season in 2016, playing in the state championships, the Copa Libertadores and in a title winning Palmeiras side.

Clearance has reportedly been delayed by the issue of third party ownership, which is very common in Brazil, but very tightly regulated in England. The Premier League deadline to register players for weekend fixtures is 12noon the preceding Friday, so City are hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to include him in their plans for the match against Tottenham.
