Italian newspaper Tutto Sport claims that AC Milan are ready to hijack Inter Milan’s move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva. The 29-year old has been told that he can leave Anfield in January, with Inter making contact over a possible loan move.

However, Inter have stalled, as Liverpool reportedly insisted on an option to buy clause when the loan ends in June. The club are apparently not keen on this option, seeing Lucas as a stopgap purchase until they can find a more permanent solution in midfield.

Tutto Sport reports that AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has made contact with Liverpool and indicated that his club would be willing to insert such a clause to broker the deal. It is almost certain that the Brazilian will depart Liverpool this month, with the two Milan rivals contemplating bringing him in on loan with an option to buy in the summer.
