Dorival Júnior asks for Clayton and Santos start talks with Atlético Mineiro

Santos coach Dorival Júnior has requested the signing of 21-year-old striker Clayton, from Atlético Mineiro.
According to the information from UOL Esporte, the board of Santos have started conversations with the leaders of Atlético Mineiro, but an official proposal has not yet been made. Despite the desire of Dorival Júnior, Santos board have already warned that the club will not do crazy things to sign the young striker. Initially, the idea was to bring the player on loan, but Atlético Mineiro only have an interest in selling the player. A good wage proposal was enough for Santos to take Leandro Donizete from Atlético, but with Clayton, the situation is much more complicated. Clayton arrived at Cidade do Galo in February and was the club's biggest investment for 2016. Signed after impressing at Figueirense, Clayton cost R$ 13 million.
Despite the effort made to rely on the striker, Clayton did not do very well in the first season in Minas Gerais. He played 46 games and only scored seven goals. The year was full of ups and downs for Clayton, who couldn't establish a starting role at the club. Even so, sending the player out on loan does not interest the board of Atlético Mineiro, especially to a rival in the Copa Libertadores. To sell Clayton, Atlético wants to recoup the amount they invested in him at the beginning of the year. Before arriving at Atletico, Clayton was in the sights of Santos, but an agreement was not reached with Figueirense. At the time, the player had already been indicated by Dorival Júnior.
So far, Santos have closed the signings of four players for the 2017 season. In addition to Leandro Donizete, the club have confirmed the arrivals of defender Cleber from Hamburg, defender Matheus Ribeiro from Atlético-GO, and striker Vladimir Hernández from Junior Barranquilla.
