Santos signing Leandro Donizete on a three-year deal
Santos have forwarded the deal with midfielder Leandro Donizete for three seasons.
The 34-year-old has a contract with Atlético-MG until the end of 2016, but will not renew at Galo. Despite the agreement between the parties, the signing of the contract is expected to take place only in early 2017, according to the information from Globo Esporte. Santos will begin their preseason on January 11. Leandro Donizete was a request from coach Dorival Júnior, who was responsible for taking him from Ferroviária-SP to Coritiba in 2008. The coach had also requested to sign the midfielder on other occasions. Donizete did not renew his deal with Atlético Mineiro because of the contract length. Atlético offered him a new bond, but only until the end of 2017, while Donizete wanted at least two more years. The player's agent, Édson Khodor, is Dorival Júnior's brother-in-law and also has a good relationship with Santos president Modesto Roma Júnior. He's the agent of playmaker Lucas Lima, for example. Currently, Santos have Thiago Maia, Renato, Yuri, Alison and Fernando Medeiros as options for the position, while Léo Cittadini can also play in the role. Leandro Donizete will be the fourth signing of Santos ahead of the 2017 season. So far, Santos have confirmed the arrivals of defender Cleber, wing-back Matheus Ribeiro and striker Vladimir Hernández.
