Chilean left-back Eugenio Mena, who played on loan at São Paulo in 2016, should not remain at Cruzeiro next season.
According to Globo Esporte, Internacional have contacted Cruzeiro about the possibility of having Eugenio Mena on loan for next season. He played on loan for São Paulo, throughout 2016, and has returned to Cruzeiro. Back in Belo Horizonte, the Chilean is not part of Mano Menezes’ plans. The Minas Gerais side also intends to pass him on to another club, just like they did this season. According to the player’s entourage, Internacional playing in Brazil’s second division is not seen as an obstacle for the deal. So far, however, Inter have only made an enquiry to Cruzeiro. In 2016, Mena played 45 games for São Paulo and was a starter for most of the season. The Chilean reached Cruzeiro in 2015 after defending Santos’ shirt in the previous two seasons. At Cruzeiro, he played in 26 matches. His arrival in Porto Alegre would serve to solve a recurring problem that Inter have been facing this year, in the left-back position. After inconsistent performances from Géferson and Artur, even Alex was used as a makeshift left-back.
In addition to Mena, Internacional are monitoring situations of other players in search of reinforcements for next season in the Série B. At the request of Antônio Carlos Zago, the club are analysing whether to make a move for defender Klaus, from Juventude. There’s also an interest in attacking options, such as Marcelo Cirino and William Pottker. The biggest dream of the board, however, is to bring back Taison – the attacker has already signaled with the desire to return, but will have to get the release from Shakhtar Donetsk.
