Atlético Mineiro have officially announced the signing of Brazilian defender Felipe Santana.
Atletico announced, in the early afternoon of Wednesday, the signing of defender Felipe Santana, for two seasons. Revealed by Figueirense, where he was training in the past days to maintain his shape, Felipe Santana has previously played for four European clubs: Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, Olympiacos and Kuban Krasnodar. The second signing of the Roger Machado era is in Belo Horizonte, and stayed for around an hour with club director Eduardo Maluf at the club’s office. He said: “Thank God, everything went well, I think they have already spread the word. I’m very happy to be able to play for Galo and return to Brazil. I hope we can be very successful here.”
In an interview with the official website of the club, he commented on the experience abroad and the motivation to defend the team from Minas Gerais. Felipe said: “I’m good. It was many years out there, I learned a lot, both professionally and personally. Many things have happened in my life and I’m prepared. I know it’s a huge challenge that we will face this year and it was Atlético’s project that made me come here. I’d rather not talk too much, show a little more so that, up front, we can all come out as winners on this project.”
Felipe also commented on playing in the Libertadores next year. He added: “It’s very good, it’s a lot easier. Libertadores is a very difficult competition, which requires players of feedback and experience, which is what Galo have. I’m coming to add and contribute in the best possible way, to support this big goal that is the conquest of the Libertadores.”
