Elected as one of the best defender in the Brasileirão this year, Grêmio’s Pedro Geromel sees his name stay high in the spotlight to the point of receiving enquiries and even proposals from foreign clubs.
According to Globo Esporte, there hasn’t been any talks with Grêmio, and the contacts came to Geromel’s agent Maickel Portela, who is expected to meet with the club’s board to present the offers later this week. The agent has received concrete projects from foreign teams, with figures already defined. An eventual exit, however, will only be carried out with the endorsement of Grêmio. Geromel had his contract renewed at the beginning of the year, and runs until 2019. The interest in Geromel is nothing new for the Brazilian side. After an excellent season in 2015, the defender became the target of several teams in the country, such as Corinthians, but always reiterated the desire to remain in Porto Alegre. The defender, who maintains an emotional bond with the club’s fans, can change his mind in the event of an irrefutable salary proposal. Everything will be defined over the next few days, according to the report.
Signed in 2014, Geromel only took off from the second half of that year. In 2015, the defender was elected as one of the best in the Brasileirão and maintained his level of performances in 2016. So much so that, in addition to the individual awards, he was called up by Brazilian national team coach Tite, following an injury to São Paulo’s Rodrigo Caio. There is even an expectation among his staff that he’d be called up again in 2017. Altogether, the defender has made 131 appearances for Grêmio, with eight goals scored, in three seasons.
