Brazilian defender Felipe Santana, who has had spells at Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, Olympiacos and Kuban Krasnodar in Europe, was training at Figueirense to maintain his physical shape.
Following a poor defensive performance last season, when they conceded 89 goals in 75 matches, Atlético Mineiro are chasing defensive reinforcements for 2017. A name that interests the Brazilian side is 30-year-old defender Felipe Santana, who has played for Borussia Dortmund, Schalke, Olympiacos and Russian club Kuban Krasnodar. The club does not comment on any negotiations. When contacted by Globo Esporte, Felipe Santana’s manager said he is in Belo Horizonte, but preferred not to reveal any details about the negotiation between the defender and Atlético Mineiro. Felipe Santana has not been active since June 2016, when he played for Kuban Krasnodar in Russia. Since the end of the European season, he had been doing physical reconditioning at Figueirense, where he started his career as a footballer. The best moment of the defender in European football was in 2013, when he was a UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund. Felipe scored a goal in the quarterfinals of the competition, against Spanish team Málaga.
