Darío Conca is recovering from a knee injury in the United States and he will only define his future at the start of 2017.
Aimed at strengthening the squad for the Copa Libertadores and other competitions in 2017, the board of Flamengo have been approaching some major names in the market. According to the information from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, one of the main targets of Flamengo is Shanghai SIPG’s Argentine attacking midfielder Darío Conca. Flamengo do not hide their optimism about the outcome of the negotiation, but they remain cautious publicly. No representative of the club commented on the negotiations with the Argentine. After the first steps of the negotiation, Flamengo are monitoring from far the situation of Conca, who’s recovering from a serious knee injury. The player from Shanghai SIPG is in the United States, where he intensifies physiotherapy after surgery to correct a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee. Marcos Motta, representative of the player, avoided mentioning Flamengo in his speech and giving more details of the conversation. He said: “There is no hurry in this, he is recovering and will not define anything before the beginning of next year.”
Asked about the possible signing of the playmaker, the executive director of Flamengo, Rodrigo Caetano, said: “We are working to strengthen the squad, but the policy here is not to talk about names. A possible pair of Diego and Conca? Of course we can have two players with similar characteristics. It’s just a matter of being trained.”
In addition to Darío Conca, Flamengo are also negotiating to close the signing of Rômulo, from Spartak Moscow and Vitória forward Marinho. Just like the case of the Argentine midfielder, none of these deals will be implemented before 2017. The only signing announced by Flamengo so far is Peruvian left-back Miguel Trauco.
