Manchester City midfielder Fernando Reges put the Citizens’ 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday down to their intensity levels. City trailed the Gunners 1-0 at half time through a Theo Walcott goal, but roared back to win 2-1 in the second half, with goals from Sane and Sterling.

The Brazilian said that his side’s aggressive second half performance gave the home side the edge, telling ESPN Brazil, “Playing against Arsenal is always very difficult. We knew it would be a six-point match, these are two teams who fight at the top. So we knew to win would be important.

“We played well, better in the second half. We were very aggressive. That’s why the result was good. We know the Premier League is a very difficult league. We know anything can happen.” City are now 7 points behind Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

“Of course it’s a considerable gap, but we know anything can happen from now on. We must continue our job, winning games and see what happens then.” Fernando was also enthusiastic about playing under Pep Guardiola, even though he has only started the midfielder 7 times this season.

“Being the manager he with the titles he has won, we knew that the demand would be greater. That’s why people analyse a lot when we have a draw or a loss. We know we have to improve everyday. Pep demands a lot, he’s an excellent manager that tries to take the best from the players.”
