Brazilian striker Gabigol prefers not to return to Brazilian football in the January transfer window.
20-year-old striker Gabigol is still waiting to see what happens with his future, but one thing is certain; he doesn’t wish to leave Europe now, according to the information from ESPN Brasil. The player is expected to complete at least six months at Inter Milan, so he can take a European passport and avoid a foreign quota. Since arriving at Inter Milan, Gabigol has only played 16 minutes for the team, in a league match against Bologna. Gabigol is unhappy with his situation at the club, as explained by his agent Wagner Ribeiro. He was expected to receive more chances with the arrival of Stefano Pioli, but he’s yet to play a single minute of football under the new coach. In an interview with Radio Globo, Wagner Ribeiro also commented on the interest of Brazilian clubs, revealing that he was “wanted by a Rio and Minas Gerais club” for a loan in January.
The striker’s entourage and his family are very upset about the lack of playing time in Italy, after investing around €30 million to count on the young striker. The evaluation of the representatives is that Gabigol has been training well and trying hard, but still doesn’t receive chances. With regard to a loan move in the January transfer window, Gabigol only wants to go to a big team in Europe. Small teams on the continent are not in his intention now, and in that case, he would rather go back to Brazil. The manager of the player, Wagner Ribeiro, plans to go to Italy in January to talk to Inter Milan about Gabigol’s situation. Santos have their eye on the youngster and are interested in taking him back to the Vila Belmiro on loan, to play in the 2017 Copa Libertadores.
Meanwhile, agent Wagner Ribeiro told SporTV on Friday afternoon that the priority is to keep the striker at Inter Milan in 2017. He said: “The plan is for him to stay in Inter and be in the starting lineup. If he returns to Brazil, a bureaucratic problem arises. He occupies a foreign quota, and if he returns, he loses this vacancy. If he is loaned to a club in Italy, he does not lose. I think we will reach an agreement for him to play, let’s talk to his family who are sad about the situation. He left Brazil as an Olympic champion, was a starter at Santos and was called up by Tite. He arrived in Italy, was unaware of the coaching habits of the club. He’s young, he has huge potential, he wants a chance to play and show his football. I should be back in January to Milan, where we will solve this in the best way.”
