Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his side are missing the presence of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian damaged ankle ligaments in a 2-0 victory over Sunderland a fortnight ago and will miss the festive programme.

The Reds’ have taken only 1 point from their 2 games since he was injured and Klopp confesses that Coutinho’s absence is felt, “I know everybody misses Phil, because of the part he played, but we have to adapt now, we know what we have to work on.”

Divock Origi has come into the team in Coutinho’s absence and has scored 4 goals in 4 games now. However, Roberto Firmino has been far less productive, as he has shifted out wide to replace his compatriot and accommodate Origi. Firmino registered no shots, no key passes and no take ons during the 2-2 draw with West Ham on Sunday.

Klopp admits that he may be tempted to plunge into the January transfer market to beef up the Reds’ attacking options, “The winter transfer market is the most difficult. We are always looking. If you watch our bench, very experienced in defence and not offence. If the situation stays like this it is clear we have open eyes.”
