At times like this, you realize that all the effort and dedication paid off. I came to European football at a very young age. Despite the difficulty with the weather, I adapted quickly and counted on the support of the Ukrainian people to carry out my work. I’m very grateful to my teammates, family and friends. This award belongs to all of us.”
Another Brazilian who shone in the competition was Marlos from Shakhtar. In his sixth year in the European country, and the third at Shakhtar, Marlos has shown a big evolution in his football. Last season, for example, the number 11 was the major highlight of the club, and entered the best XI of the UEFA Europa League. With excellent performances, Marlos led his team to the semi-finals, but were eventually eliminated by Sevilla, which subsequently won the title by beating Liverpool. This season, Marlos made 28 appearances, scored six goals and provided eight assists. Since he arrived at Shakhtar, the Brazilian made 109 appearances, scored 23 goals and gave 26 assists.
Marlos said: “It’s good to receive an award like this, because it’s a sign that I’m doing a good job and the staff are enjoying it. Since I came to Ukraine, I’ve matured so much and I’m a more complete player, but I would never have won anything if it were not for the help of my teammates. I thank everyone and I will continue working very seriously to continue developing my career.”
