Brazilian forward Robinho has a contract with Atlético Mineiro until the end of 2017 and the club wants to keep the player.
Robinho is part of Santos’ plans for 2017, according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola. The report states that the information was confirmed by a person from the board of Santos, who admits conversations between the club and the attacker. Santos’s optimism causes strangeness at Atlético Mineiro, which owns the economic rights of the player until December 2017. Top goalzscorer of the country this season, with 25 goals, Robinho is seen as a fundamental piece in the team being assembled by Roger Machado for 2017. After leaving China, at the end of last year, the former player of Manchester City man team had proposals from Atlético Mineiro and Santos. The decision to opt for Galo was due to the superior wage proposal, but that’s where Santos’ hope lies. Dryworld, Atlético Mineiro’s sporting goods supplier, had agreed to pay half of the wages of Robinho, but the company is leaving the club and the responsibility to pay 100% of the salaries will be with Galo. Robinho has already had three passages through Vila Belmiro and is regarded as the icing on the cake by president Modesto Roma Júnior in assembling the team for next year’s Copa Libertadores. The prize money promised by CBF to the second-placed team in the Brasileirão is R$ 3.4 million higher than what the third-placed team receives, and Modesto intends to use that amount to convince Atlético Mineiro release the player.
