Struggling Premier League champions Leicester City are once again being linked with Brazilian forward Gabriel Barbosa. Gabigol joined Inter Milan from Santos in August and Leicester were said to have been monitoring his situation at that time.

The club were negotiating a contract for Riyad Mahrez amidst interest from several top European clubs and scouted Gabigol as a potential replacement. However, Mahrez eventually signed a new deal and Barbosa joined Inter.

However, the 20 year old has had a mere 16 minutes of first team action for troubled Inter since his move and reports have emerged that he regrets his decision to join the Milanese club. Leicester are currently 16th in the Premier League table and need to give their season a shot in the arm.

The Foxes have, however, qualified for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League and Calciomercato report that Leicester will make an approach for Gabigol in January. With Jamie Vardy’s goals having dried up, the Foxes are seeking additional firepower.

The player’s agent admits that a January loan move may be on the cards, but believes another Serie A club might be the ideal solution, with Bolgna, Empoli and Genoa said to be interested. La Liga side Las Palmas are also said to be interested.

“In January we will solve this situation a once and for all. There is a possibility to come back to Brazil? There is yes, but it’s easier to be sent on loan in Italy,” said the player’s representative.
