The Football Association have confirmed that Manchester City’s Fernandinho will be suspended for three matches after his red card against Chelsea at the Etihad Arena on Saturday. The Brazilian was involved in an incident with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas that saw him issued with a red card.

After what appeared to be a slap by Fabregas, Fernandinho gripped the Spaniard around the throat and pushed him to the floor. The offence was deemed violent conduct and he will now sit out City’s next three domestic fixtures.

The Brazilian will miss encounters against Leicester City, Watford and Arsenal, returning for the Boxing Day clash with Hull City. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed today that the club will not appeal his suspension.

Teammate Sergio Aguero was issued with a four match ban after a high tackle on David Luiz, his second violent conduct offence of the season. The Football Association confirms that both clubs have been charged with failing to control their players.

A statement on the FA website read, "Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been charged for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

“It follows an incident in the 95th minute of the game on Saturday [December 3 2016].Both clubs have until 6pm on 8 December 2016 to respond to the charge."
