Emerson will be sold by Santos to AS Roma for €2 million
Brazilian left-back Emerson, who belongs to Santos and currently playing on loan at AS Roma in Italy, will be sold to the European club in the next transfer window.
A clause in the agreement says that if Emerson completes 12 games in the 2016/2017 season, the player would be sold to the Italians for €2 million. Emerson's 12th game for Roma was the derby against Lazio. As in the last rounds of the Italian Championship, the left-back, who has a contract with Santos until 2019, started and remained on the pitch during the 90 minutes. Now the two clubs must agree on the details of the transfer. The automatic purchase clause was precisely what made Santos release Emerson again on loan in the middle of this year, when the old contract had ended. Santos had no interest in releasing the player on loan again, and the idea of president Modesto Roma Júnior was to sell the left-back. Given the insistence of Roma and the possibility of profiting in the near future, Santos saw the clause as an alternative, which was accepted by the Italians. Currently coach Dorival Júnior has Zeca and Cajú for the left-back position, as well as Matheus Ribeiro, who was signed for 2017.
