Englishman Michael Beale, who’s an author of nine books about training methods, holder of UEFA’s A-license, and with a 15 year experience between Liverpool and Chelsea, will leave England to work with Rogério Ceni in São Paulo.
Michael Beale, who was leading Liverpool’s U23 side, is the Englishman chosen by Rogério Ceni to be his assistant in São Paulo. According to Globo Esporte, the agreement should be completed by next week. The relationship between them deepened in Ceni’s visit to Liverpool last September, when he was taking the coaching course of the English Football Association. The Brazilian was with Jürgen Klopp, who manages Liverpool, but also talked with other members of the committee. Beale worked at Chelsea from 2003 to 2012. There, he was the U14’s coach and responsible for the development of the club’s youth categories. In September 2012 he took on a similar role for the U15 and U16 teams at Liverpool. In a restructuring in August 2014, he was promoted as U21’s coach, and presently leads the U23 team. The long period of interaction with young people has caused Michael Beale to witness the emergence of future stars. Last week, for example, young attacking midfielder Ben Woodburn, who at the age of 17 became the youngest scorer in Liverpool’s history. Beale’s congratulations, however, were given at a distance. It is that he is already in Brazil, and was with Rogério Ceni to watch São Paulo’s 4-0 win over Capivariano, last Sunday, in Cotia – the first-leg of the U20 Paulistão final.
The newly appointed São Paulo coach watched the game alongside his likely future assistant, marketing director Vinícius Pinotti and Frenchman Charles Hembert, a logistics professional who assists the Brazilian team in their overseas appointments and was with Ceni during the coaching course in England, as well as in his stage in Sevilla with Argentine Jorge Sampaoli. Hembert will be able to provide services in this area to the São Paulo’s technical committee. Once the deal with Beale is set, he will begin to study Portuguese. The couch would be next to Rogério Ceni in training for the club’s preseason, which will be played mostly in the United States. It’s exactly the experience of Beale in assembling the program of activities that caught the attention of the former goalkeeper. Beale also holds the A and B licenses of UEFA, lacking only the final stage of the course to obtain the highest possible work permit for a coach in Europe, which is the UEFA Pro license.
