Santos wants to offer a productivity contract to Luís Fabiano, but the 35-year-old striker wants to remain abroad without giving up high wages.
According to Globo Esporte, Santos wants to sign Luís Fabiano for 2017, but the negotiation is far from being fulfilled. This is because Santos are willing to offer a productivity contract to the striker, but this is not in the plans of Fabiano and his representatives. Luís Fabiano has a contract with China"s Tianjin Quanjian until the end of this year, and will not renew the contract. The center-forward received enquiries from other Chinese clubs as well as Ponte Preta and Vasco da Gama of Brazil, but he did not want to give up the high salary. Santos sees Luís Fabiano as a back-up for Ricardo Oliveira, who has missed several games this year due to injury, and the coaching staff understands that it would be important to have a heavyweight option along with the number 9. Rodrigão has had a drop in performances and on loan striker Joel will be returning to Cruzeiro.
With no chance of an agreement on a productivity contract, Santos hopes that the player decides to come to Vila Belmiro thinking about next year"s Libertadores. There is also the possibility of a short contract, as done with Ricardo Oliveira [of three months], and then a renewal with larger values. Santos have already signed right-back Matheus Ribeiro of Atlético-GO and striker Vladimir Hernández of Junior Barranquilla. Santos are also negotiating with defender Cléber [Hamburg], Marcos Guilherme [Atletico-PR], and Atlético Nacional"s Guerra and Berrio.
