President-elect Pedro Abad has reached an agreement with the coach – some contract details are still being discussed, and an official announcement should happen this weekend.
Abel Braga will be announced as the new coach of Fluminense. According to the information from Globo Esporte, the coach has reached an agreement with the president-elect, Pedro Abad. The official announcement of the new appointment is expected to be made this weekend. It will be the third spell of Abel Braga at Fluminense. Roger Machado was the top priority of Abad, who won the presidential election last Saturday. However, the former coach of Grêmio was close to a deal with Atlético Mineiro, hence Abad searched for alternatives. Cuca, who has just won the Brasileirão with Palmeiras, was indicated but the coach’s indefinite situation at his current club prevented any advances. Pedro Abad was elected as the new president last Saturday and will be in charge of Fluminense until 2019. The agreement between the parties was forwarded to Abad and Abel last Monday. Details like contract length are still under discussion, but the parties are likely to sign for two seasons. Some Fluminense players, who resumed training on Wednesday, have already been informed that they will have Abel Braga as their boss in 2017.
Abel, who was recently on a trip but has already returned to Brazil, has been free in the market since leaving Al-Jazeera of the United Arab Emirates. He had attracted the interest of Celso Barros and Mário Bittencourt, defeated candidates in the election of Saturday. State champion in 2005 and 2012 and Brasileirão winner in 2012, Abel has had two previous spells at Fluminense.
