There wouldn’t be a single Santos supporter who doesn’t regret the transfer of striker Gabigol to Italian side Inter Milan in August this year.
With just one round remaining in the Brasileirão, coach Dorival Junior, for example, still cites the loss of the striker as a factor for the team’s drop in performances. However, there is still hope for the club’s fans and for the coach himself – according to the information from Lance!, people linked to Gabigol recently contacted the board of Santos to express the striker’s desire to play Libertadores for the club which revealed him. However, Gabigol’s agent Wagner Ribeiro denied that his client’s intention is to leave Inter Milan. The agent also stressed that Gabigol has been working hard to earn a space in the Italian club. Despite the approach from the player’s staff, the board of Santos haven’t begun the negotiations to bring back the 20-year-old to Vila Belmiro. Even with the initial contact with the player, Santos haven’t even started the talks with Inter Milan and therefore doesn’t know the conditions for the deal. The striker has so far played just 15 minutes for the Italian team, against Bologna, in the Serie A. It is certain that the club want to take advantage of Gabigol’s lack of playing time at Inter Milan and intends to use this exact argument to convince the Italians to loan out the player. Gabigol was sold for €29 million in the middle of this season and bid farewell to Santos, after winning two state league titles, in 2015 and 2016.
