Matheus Saroli, son of Chapecoense coach Caio Júnior, said on Tuesday morning that he almost took the tragic flight that carried the club’s delegation to Colombia.
The plane suffered an accident in the region of Antioquia, near Medellín, killing over 70 people, including coaches, players, officials and journalists. According to Matheus, he missed the trip to Medellín, Colombia, only because he forgot his passport. The son of Caio Júnior was in the city of São Paulo on Monday, and the delegation left the city in the afternoon. In an interview with UOL Esporte last week, Caio Júnior said that he was going through the best phase of his career. With him in charge, Chapecoense reached the final of the Copa Sul-Americana.
Matheus said: “Friends, my brother and my mother are all well. We ask that we are given a little privacy, especially to my mother, and thank all of those sending messages. I was in São Paulo today and didn’t board the flight because I had forgotten my passport. We are strong, we are going to get past this. Thank you everyone.”
