Santos coach Dorival Junior admits that he is interested in bringing out of favour Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to the club. The German has not started a game since Jose Mourinho took over this summer and looks likely to depart in January.

Santos are on course to finish in 3rd place in the Brasileirão this year and the club are already looking to build for next season. Dorival says he has already spoken to the board at Santos about attracting the ex Bayern midfielder.

“I told them that we should try to get a big name in world football, or at least send an invitation. It was just a recommendation … It won’t hurt us to try. We didn’t only speak about Schweinsteiger but other players too. A player like that can obviously lift the level of the team, but he has to come with an objective and an appetite.”

O Peixe have some money from the August sale of Gabigol and will play in the Copa Libertadores next year, which they hope will leave them with enough funds for Schweinsteiger and they hope will prove lure enough to capture his interest.
