The second passage of Elias at Portuguese side Sporting may be much shorter than expected.
According to the information from UOL Esporte, the Brazilian midfielder can be transferred to Tianjin Teda of China. Last Friday, representatives of the Chinese club met with leaders of the Portuguese team to evaluate possibilities before presenting an official offer. The value of the possible negotiation should be around €8 million. The amount is more than double of what Sporting invested to sign Elias from Corinthians, €3 million – a part of the amount was paid using a debt that Timão already had with the Portuguese team. The departure to China would be easier because Elias has no space in the team at the moment. This is his second stint with Sporting, after previously wearing their shirt in 2014. This time, the player was signed following a request by coach Jorge Jesus, but he has played 90 minutes only twice this season, both in the Portuguese Cup. Elias would like to play more to recover his best level and return to fight for a place in the Brazilian national team. The trip to China was already a possibility commented on by Elias and Sporting since he left Corinthians on the last day of August. In early 2016, the player also negotiated with Chinese teams Hebei Fortune and Shandong Luneng. And the Chinese were not the only ones interested in the signing the midfielder. In recent days, at the request of Mano Menezes, Cruzeiro made an enquiry to Sporting for Elias, but the club gave up because they knew that it would be impossible to compete with Chinese teams’ money.
