Brazil and AC Milan legend Kaká paid tribute to ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, as the English midfielder announced his retirement from football this week. Gerrard represented Liverpool from 1998 until 2015, before a two year stint with LA Galaxy.

Kaká, who played against Gerrard in 2 European Cup finals for Milan, took to his Instagram account to pay tribute to the retiring midfielder, “We were rivals and lived unforgettable finals, congratulations on your incredible career,” he wrote. Kaká has also played against Gerrard for Orlando City, where he is currently plying his trade.

Compatriot and Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho also paid tribute to the long serving Liverpool captain on social media, writing, “What an honour to have played with this legend. Thank you for everything Captain. I wish you all the best.”

Fellow Brazilian Lucas Leiva joined the Instagram tributes, with a message that read, “Thanks for all the years that we worked together. I am sure that you will be successful in whatever you do from now on. YNWA captain.”
