18-year-old Ponte Preta striker Leandrinho is in Naples to sign his contract with Napoli.
The speculations surrounding the future of young striker Leandrinho is coming to an end. In litigation with Ponte Preta since the beginning of the year, the youngster is close to signing for Napoli. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the player is in Naples to sign a five-year contract and the transfer would cost €500,000. Ponte Preta wants to enter into an agreement without involving court and closing the legal battle. Officially, the Campinas club will only speak when there"s something signed. Behind the scenes, however, the board admits that the parties have come to the conclusion that the best for both sides is to seek a common denominator, since, in court, the case tends to drag on for a long time, causing damage to everyone. In June, a court injunction favoring Ponte Preta forced Leandrinho to sign the first professional bond with the club or pay a fine set at approximately R$ 13 million [€3.6 million] – referring to the expenses that Ponte had in his formation.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the negotiation for Leandrinho, underway for months, is expected to be concluded in January after the deadlock with Ponte was resolved. The Italian press still points out that Napoli got the better of competitors like Real Madrid and Manchester City. The situation has been dragging on since January, as Leandrinho did not reappear at Ponte, even having a training contract until January 31, 2017. Since then, he has not played, trying to reach an agreement with a team from abroad. He was promoted to the professional squad in 2015, with prominent participation in Copa do Brasil matches, and also for the Brazilian U17 national team. He was one of the major names of the team that took part in the U17 World Cup. Following this, the demand for the player grew, and businessman João Santos began to make contacts with those interested.
