Santos coach Dorival Júnior is irritated by the transfer speculations in the middle of the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship.
Santos, currently second in the table, competes for the title with leaders Palmeiras, and for a place among the top three, which guarantees direct qualification to next season"s Copa Libertadores. The coach is bothered, mainly, with the speculations about a possible exchange of players between Santos and São Paulo. Last week, presidents Modesto Roma Júnior and Carlos Augusto Barros e Silva had met to discuss possible exchanges. Dorival Júnior requested the signing of Michel Bastos, but he did not like to see the name of striker Ricardo Oliveira being considered in a possible transfer to the Morumbi club. The coach believes that the information on signings and possible departures of players takes away the focus of the squad in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship.
Dorival said: “There is nothing in this [exchanges]. Ricardo"s name was unnecessarily involved, and there was also no list. We were very focused on these final games. We talked, but that"s not the case. Santos are going to have a moment to stop, rethink, and give new conditions to the squad, but this is not the moment. Our main focus is to be attentive and prepared before facing Vitória."
