Spain’s High Court said on Monday that Barcelona forward Neymar, his parents and two of the club’s executives should stand trial for alleged corruption, as an investigation into the Brazilian’s tax affairs was concluded.

The case stems from a complaint by a Brazilian investment group, DIS, who owned part of Neymar’s transfer rights. They claim to have received less money than it was entitled to. Barcelona and Santos have come under fire for the way the transfer was completed in 2013.

The club has already agreed to pay €5.5 million (£4.9 million) to Spanish tax authorities in relation to the case – had initially said they paid €57.1 million (£50 million) for Neymar but later said the cost was nearer €100 million.

Neymar, who joins up with his national side ahead of the Superclasico against Argentina in Belo Horizonte on Thursday, recently signed a new deal with Barca, keeping him with the club until 2022.
