On Friday, FIFA announced the nominees for The Best Player in the World Award, which will be delivered on January 9, in Switzerland.
Neymar is among the competitors along with his Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. In addition to Neymar, who’s the only Brazilian on the list, 23 other players are vying to be among the top three. The finalists were chosen by a FIFA Committee and a group of experts. Now, the top three will be elected by the public, which has until November 22 to vote for the top three in the world and FIFA will publish the names on December 2.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City); Paul Pogba (Juventus/Manchester United); Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid); Lionel Messi (Barcelona); Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid); Payet (West Ham); Mesut Özil (Arsenal); Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich); Luka Modrić (Real Madrid); Riyad Mahrez (Leicester); Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich); Toni Kroos (Real Madrid); Kanté (Leicester/Chelsea); Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona); Zlatan Ibrahimović (PSG/Manchester United); Griezmann (Atlético Madrid); Buffon (Juventus); Gareth Bale (Real Madrid); Sergio Agüero (Manchester City); Luis Suárez (Barcelona); Jamie Vardy (Leicester); Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
Neymar is also in the top-30 of France Football magazine’s Ballon d’Or Award. The date of delivery of this award has not yet been disclosed, but the ceremony will be held before the end of the year and not at the beginning of the next, as happened in the six previous editions. The new format, revealed on 20th September, eliminates the intermediate step of announcing the three finalists.
