Palmeiras’ Colombian defender Yerry Mina can receive an offer from Premier League club Manchester City.
Palmeiras defender Yerri Mina has attracted the attention of clubs in European football after his performances for Palmeiras and the Colombian national team. According to the information from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City showed interest in Yerry Mina and made a survey to Palmeiras for information on the player. A collaborate of Manchester City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain would have made an enquiry about the clause that gives a purchase-preference to Barcelona on a possible sale of the defender. When they signed Yerry Mina last summer, Palmeiras had an agreement with Barcelona for a first-option on the 22-year-old. In the contract signed by Mina, there’s a clause which gives the Catalans a purchase-preference. According to the newspaper, the fee stipulated for Barcelona to sign Mina in the transfer window of January 2017 is €9 million, which is well below the player’s €30 million release clause. If Barça wants to take Mina at the beginning of 2018, then they’d have to pay €10 million, and the fee becomes €12 million if they’re to sign him before 2019. The agreement which gives a priority to Barcelona in signing Mina was tailored after Palmeiras, who approached the representatives of the Colombian, were informed about the interest of the Catalans. Barça initially intended to loan him out, because he wouldn’t have space in the team at this time.
The Spanish newspaper reminds that Manchester City had passed ahead of Barcelona in signing another highlight of Palmeiras, who is the top-scorer of the Brasileirão, Gabriel Jesus. The Catalan team had a “discount” in the release clause of Gabriel Jesus, but City advanced in negotiations and agreed to pay €32.75 million to sign the 19-year-old, leaving him at Palmeiras until the end of 2016. But Barcelona still do not know if Pep Guardiola’s team will make an offer for Mina, who has a contract with Palmeiras until 2019. If Manchester City join the fray, then Barcelona have the option to match the English team’s proposal.
