Brazilian defender Marlon, who’s owned by Fluminense, is expected to be on the Barcelona bench in the La Liga fixture with Granada and against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
This is because the Catalan club will be without Gerard Piqué and Jérémy Mathieu, who are both injured. As mentioned in Mundo Deportivo, Barça B player Marlon will be called up following the absence of the duo. Javier Mascherano and Samuel Umtiti should start together at central defence in the club’s upcoming matches. The Brazilian played 90 minutes in the Supercopa de Catalunya game against Espanyol on Tuesday, and coach Luis Enrique was pleased with the 21-year-old defender’s performance. Piqué suffered a sprain in the match against Manchester City last week, while Mathieu was injured on Tuesday and will undergo medical tests to know how long he will be sidelined.
Marlon is currently on loan at the Spanish team from Fluminense until the end of the season. The defender was praised by the Spanish press for his performances in the pre-season matches for the first team of Barcelona.
