Paris Saint Germain captain Thiago Silva has asserted his desire to stay with the club. The Brazilian, who joined PSG from AC Milan in 2012, has been linked with a move away in recent weeks as his contract reaches a critical phase.
Silva, now 32, has even been linked with a move to the Premier League. Certainly many clubs in Europe have been on high alert about his possible availability. But the Rio born centre half has moved to quash speculation.
“We started talking last year, at the end of the season and afterwards this summer I do not know why (we didn’t continue). But I am happy, I am happy here. I want to stay and extend my contract but we need to speak with the President to see what we will do for the future.”
PSG lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United in the summer and have seen their form dip in Ligue 1, leading to speculation over their captain’s future. His compatriot David Luiz also left for the Premier League during the summer, rejoining Chelsea. However, Silva, who recently won his place back in the Brazil squad, has opened the door for contract negotiations with PSG to restart.
