Brazil’s 2002 World Cup winning captain Cafu laments the loss of Dunga as Seleção coach, but has hailed the work of Tite, who has won each of his four games since taking over the reins in September.

Cafu was a teammate of Dunga’s at international level and the legendary right-back says he believed that Brazil would have qualified for the World Cup under Dunga, despite them being in 6th place in the CONMEBOL qualifying table at the time of his departure.

Now they are in first, but Cafu thinks Dunga would have turned things around, “I had full confidence that Brazil would go to the World Cup and also believed in the work of Dunga, the professionalism and the professional that he is. Unfortunately, the results did not come.

However, Cafu admits that Brazil look a changed team under Tite, “The main change was the move to a simpler game. We already see a little more of Tite in the national team. It’s a different Brazilian team, even in terms of motivation that we saw before.”

Cafu, an ex-Brazil captain, also likes Tite’s idea of rotating the captaincy, “That’s great, to give responsibility to everyone. In 2002, for example, I had the armband but we also had Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos, who could be captain.”
