Diego Costa has been warned to show more respect to Antonio Conte according to reports in the English media this week. Costa scored in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Leicester on Saturday, but was seen visibly remonstrating with Conte on the touchline.

Costa appeared to ask Conte to substitute him in response to Conte’s instructions from the bench. After the match, the Italian boss played down the confrontation, “Costa’s passion is very important for the team, but I decide the substitutions.”

However, the Mirror and the Telegraph both report that behind the scenes, Chelsea have warned Costa to show more respect. Costa is famed for his temperament, last season he threw a bib at Jose Mourinho after he was not called for from the substitutes bench. He was dropped for Premier League games against Spurs and Bournemouth after falling out with Mourinho.

The Telegraph suggests that Costa “had become annoyed by Conte’s hands-on coaching style”, while The Mirror said the striker was “furious at what he saw as Conte’s criticism of his performance.” Costa believed Conte “should take him off if he was not good enough,” according to the Daily Mail.
