Lionel Messi can return to Cidade do Galo, after two years; Argentina used the Brazilian club’s training centre during the 2014 World Cup.
In less than a month the national team of Brazil and Argentina will face off at the Mineirao in the 11th round of South American qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. The two confederations fight in the good sense, for the training centre of Atlético Mineiro. The structure and location of Cidade do Galo attracts the technical committees of the two teams. Recently, Brazil coach Tite was in Belo Horizonte, where he spent the day at Cidade do Galo, and also accompanied a match of Atlético at the Mineirão. The Argentines are already very knowledgeable about the structure of the Brazilian club. Messi and company used the club’s structures during the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
In early October, Atlético president Daniel Nepomuceno was asked who among Messi and Neymar would be at Cidade do Galo, and he said. “It’d be Messi. They asked, they contacted our department to ask about it. Relationship counts a lot. To have the national team of Argentina, with Pratto as a starter, of course we want.”
One reason for the choice of Atlético’s training centre is the location, and it’s next to the International Airport of Belo Horizonte. The last time Brazil were at Cidade do Galo was in 2008, when they used the site to prepare for the game against Argentina, for the qualifiers of the 2010 World Cup. As they did in Natal, when the team were preparing for the game with Venezuela, the technical committee of the Brazilian team wants to repeat the same strategy in Belo Horizonte. And thus, Cidade do Galo appears as a preference for Tite.
A definition on the subject will happen only at the beginning of next week. A committee of the CBF will be in Belo Horizonte to define all the logistics for the encounter with Argentina; for example, the setting of ticket prices. Brazil or Argentina, no matter who who gets Cidade do Galo, Atlético are the biggest winners to have their structures valued again.
