Brazil coach Tite has denied that the Seleção is dependent on Neymar. Brazil play Venezuela in Mérida tonight and the Barcelona man will serve a one match suspension. Tite has denied that his team will struggle without their talisman.

“It is time for the team to show their maturity, growth and performance. I do not agree when it comes to ‘Neymar dependency.’ Argentina do not only need Messi, he only plays well if the team is strong. To not count on your great player is part of the process of maturity of the team, there are a number of players with the quality to play well tomorrow.

“When we talk about Neymar, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo. Which team would not miss them? But who would not want Willian or the other options as we have? It is about the team. If Brazil are still ‘Neymar dependent’ it is because something is wrong.”

Tite also hopes that Brazil’s presence can give the crowd a welcome distraction from domestic crises, “I am not in a position to evaluate the social conditions. I cannot make judgments, but you can not compare with Haiti.

“I know the Brazilian team creates interest everywhere, look how many people are here. One thing is about the people, the fans, the Venezuelans, the affection. Another is to compete in the sport and try to win. You can do both.”
