Brazil boss Tite has explained his decision to start Philippe Coutinho ahead of Chelsea winger Willian tonight, as Brazil face Bolivia in Natal. The Liverpool man was subbed on for Willian in September qualifying victories against Ecuador and Colombia to good effect.

Coutinho will now get the opportunity to start on the right hand side ahead of Willian and Tite explained this decision in his pre match press conference. “Because of his two appearances in September,” the Seleção boss said.

“It was not only because the opponent was tired. It was a difficult decision for me, but right now is Coutinho’s moment, and in football you have to follow the moment. But the passing lines he opens, his mobility, creative sense. Willian is more acute and incisive.”

Tite is confident that Willian will react well to being dropped, “We don’t want players who moan in public that they lost their place in the team. It shows weak personality. Willian is not like that. Coutinho and Willian have to learn, to compete, yes- but to be fair, to have a strong personality. Willian has it. He will go out there and work hard.”
