Brazil boss Tite has confirmed that Renato Augusto will captain Brazil in their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in Natal tonight. The Seleção boss has a policy of rotating captains and the Beijing Guoan midfielder will get his turn tonight.

João Miranda and Dani Alves wore the armband in September qualifiers, so it is likely that the job will be reassigned for Tuesday evening’s game against Venezuela. Augusto was part of the Brazil squad that won gold at the Olympic games in August.

“I will not change anything, I will continue acting the same way. If I was chosen it is because I had some qualities that the coach saw in me to be captain, so I cannot change. I will keep talking as I always do, on and off the field. This has validated me,” said Augusto at the pre match press conference.

“We rotated the captain’s armband at Corinthians to share this responsibility. It is a great honour, I am very happy about it, but the important thing is to win the game, regardless of who has the armband,” continued Renato, who played under Tite at Corinthians.

“Renato has developed tactical intelligence outside the box. He has the ability to understand and convey what I am thinking. He has insight. It is authentic, a feature that I really like. He talks and sees ahead,” said Tite.
