Gilmar Rinaldi was the technical coordinator of the Brazilian football federation for two years.
He was appointed by CBF after the FIFA World Cup in July 2014, but was dismissed from the post this year, along with coach Dunga. It was Gilmar who indicated Rogério Micale for the Olympic team, Marco Aurélio Cunha to the board of the women’s team and also much of the technical committee of the senior national team. However, Gilmar revealed in an exclusive interview with Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola that he couldn’t chose the coach. He said: “The decision was made by José Maria Marin and Marco Polo Del Nero. I indicated a list of five names and Dunga was not in this list. My first name was Tite. It also had Marcelo Oliveira, Abel Braga, Levir Culpi and Muricy Ramalho.”
He added: “It seemed I was very close to Dunga? It’s a characteristic of mine. I’m loyal. If the president defines, then it was up to me to do everything to provide the best framework so that Dunga can work well. I speak to him from time to time. I imagine he will still go back to work as a coach when he see some good proposal.”
Gilmar then talked about newly appointed Brazil coach Tite, whose team currently sits second in the World Cup qualifiers standings. He said: “I even talked to Tite recently, during a visit to CBF. I’m very satisfied with his work, as well as that of Micale, for whom I went and searched at Atlético Mineiro. The President of Galo did not want to release him and I needed Marco Polo to help me.”
