Last season, it was Douglas Costa who experienced a big leap in his career after being coached by Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
Now at Manchester City, the Catalan may be responsible for the rise of Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, who returns to the national team on Monday. In a new phase in his career, at the age of 31, the player was called up by Tite, and is likely to start next Thursday, against Bolivia in Natal. He is the favorite to take the position of Real Madrid’s Casemiro, who’s injured.
Praised by Tite last month, even without being picked at that time, Fernandinho drew attention precisely because of the role he executes in Pep Guardiola’s team.  As the coach seeks a replacement with the features of Casemiro, the Manchester City man naturally emerges, and by phone, Tite has himself explained it to Fernandinho. The interesting thing is that, Guardiola sees in Fernandinho a player who’s able to perform other roles. Among the players who played in the World Cup semi-final against Germany two years ago, Fernandinho is experiencing a new phase with the arrival of Guardiola to Manchester. Guardiola imposed a strict diet regime at the club, and Fernandinho said that he lose two kilograms. The Brazilian, and a likely new starter of Tite, is one of the biggest highlights in the beginning of the European season.
Fernandinho told ESPN Brasil: “Obviously you notice a big difference from the coaches I’ve had. No wonder he was a winner wherever he went. The way he works is very cool, very interesting and you can perfectly understand everything he wants. He explains how to do things in training, the game, the tactical situations of how to attack and defend. It made me very surprised in a positive way and I’m hopeful of doing a good job with him in England.”
