The player suffered the injury during Santos’ 1-0 defeat to Sport Recife, last Saturday at Ilha do Retiro, in Pernambuco. The medical department is waiting for the knee to deflate, and Gustavo Henrique is expected to undergo surgery this week. It is the second time that the player will undergo knee ligament surgery. In early 2014, Gustavo had ruptured the ligament in his right knee.
According to UOL Esporte, Brazil coach Tite was considering to call up Gustavo Henrique to the national team. The defender was also targeted by European clubs in the last transfer window, and came to be scouted by representatives of Bayern Munich. With the absence of Gustavo, the experienced David Braz should start in defence alongside Luiz Felipe. Coach Dorival Júnior has two more options for the position – Lucas Veríssimo and Fabián Noguera.
